Glenn McGee

A well-known author and professor, became the first gentleman of Lenoir-Rhyne when Dr. Summer McGee was appointed the university first woman president in 2025. He is an outspoken advocate of Lenoir-Rhyne and an active supporter of our students, faculty, staff and alumni.
When he is not hosting one of many events at the President Residence ” where his chocolate chip cookies have become legendary ” McGee can often be found cheering on 91ÁÔÆæ students. He is a familiar presence at athletic events and fine arts performances, as well as annual traditions such as move-in, commencement and Final Flip. These occasions bring together students, families, faculty and staff in fellowship, learning and worship. He also enjoys competing with students and staff in friendly games of pinball at the Cromer Center and serves on the board of directors of the Bears Club.
Outside the university, McGee is a fellow at the Boston-based Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies, where he researches ethical issues in artificial intelligence. In Hickory, he serves on the board of directors of Arts Culture Catawba and is assisting Rev. Dr. Robert Allen with a book commemorating the 150-year history of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory.
A native of Waco, Texas, he and President McGee have three adult children: Ethan, Austin and Aidan.
